Of the forces that stir a man’s heart the pursuit of happiness surely ranks among the strongest. As the signers of the Declaration of Independence put it, everyone has certain rights, bestowed on them by their Creator, among them: “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. Webster defines happiness as a state of well-being and contentment then goes on to add a supplementary definition of happiness as a pleasurable or satisfying experience. Therein lies the danger. For there are experiences that can, at first, deliver pleasure only to then turn around and assail you with a maelstrom of harm. Eventually, the horrifying hoax will be shown for what it truly is: a thin veneer of expedient pleasure dearly purchased at the expense of the very happiness you sought. What took but a moment can hand you back a lifetime of regret. So, how do you protect yourself? How can you know which, of the endless choices confronting us each and every day, will lead to true happiness?

This is the love that keeps driving forward, no matter the hills and valleys traveled through the years. A choice of the will to put the beloved above self and God above all.

The falling is easy. The staying in love proving more difficult when the scales of romance have fallen from our eyes. Staying in love means falling away from one's self and a falling into the other.

Whenever we abide with another person we draw close to them and learn of them in an intimate fashion not achieved by any other means. It is the same with God. By various expressions of grace, God makes himself known to the human race with his ultimate expression being that of his Son, Jesus, who is the Christ, the Savior of the whole world. If we choose to believe what he says and draw close to him, God is pleased to live in us through his Spirit. And with the Spirit of God comes good fruit.
