Internal Affairs

Internal Affairs is the working title given to the current novel-in-progress.

Have you ever wondered what you would do tomorrow if you thought it was your last day? For Jarius Mason, better known as Jars, each morning brings with it a one-in-six chance the day will prove to be his last.

By his own design, Jars, the owner of the technology engineering firm, Synapzius, is playing a high-tech version of Russian Roulette. Weary of life, Jars has decided to see if the specter of imminent death on a daily basis is enough to propel him beyond despair’s grip. Sensing the power of darkness in the world, Jars wonders if there is a competing interest somewhere in the universe…

As I did with Portals, the novel just released, I’ll be publishing drafts of each chapter online as they become available—usually at the rate of one or two chapters a week.

But there’s a bit of a catch I want to tell you about right up front…

The novel will likely consist of some thirty to forty chapters. Eight of every group of ten chapters will be published online. I will then take the eight published chapters and add two more before packaging each group of ten chapters into a single eBook file available in either Kindle or Nook format and selling online at Amazon or Barnes & Noble for $1.99. (You can download free versions of both Kindle and Nook for viewing eBooks on either a Mac or PC instead of one of the actual readers if you need to.) In short, you’ll get a chance to read eight chapters of the book at no charge before having to spend less than two bucks to read more.

When the last chapter of Internal Affairs is complete, the entire novel, in final form, will be offered in multiple formats including soft and hardcover versions. That’s the plan, anyway.

Ready to get started? Chapter 1 is waiting to be read!

Internal Affairs – Chapter 1

Internal Affairs – Chapter 2

Internal Affairs – Chapter 3

Internal Affairs – Chapter 4

Internal Affairs – Chapter 5

Glad to see Chapter 5 out. I’ll be hoping to get back to a more consistent pace come the first of the year!

  1. Hello Michael,

A friend sent me your article on Persimmons, Prickly Pears and Petulant daughters listed under Recent Posts. It was an excellent article and drew me to want to read the first 3 chapters of Internal Affairs. Like Sheila, God has blessed me with a wonderful soul mate husband and his many talents will perhaps one day be put into his much desired novel.

Your new book reads quickly. It was impossible not to go through the 3 chapters as soon as I read the first one. I’ll be bookmarking your site to read the additional chapters. I noticed the spelling of Sten as Stan in the 3rd chapter and wondered if you had noticed it. Truly a minor thing . . . You are a very talented writer, Michael. I will look for your other books on Kindle to send to my mother-in-law. May God continue to bless you with your superior writing talents.

  2. Thank you, Kay, for your kind words. Of course, the Persimmons article was written by my wife, Sheila, a remarkable woman and insightful and wise writer!

Thanks for catching the typo, too! I always appreciate the help on this front!

I’m in Virginia visiting my father but will return later this weekend. Chapter 4 of Internal Affairs is delayed a bit as a result but will be out the week of the 13th.

I’ll also be publishing a Christmas short story that will be available on Kindle soon.

Thanks again for honoring us with your visit to A Sweet Read!
